Demographics

The Scotiabank Convention Centre targets a wide variety of audience; starting from kids who are able to attend events held in the convention centre, to teens, young adults, seniors, and even international visitors. It is found to be this way because the convention centre does not focus on a particular theme, yet focuses on presenting a spread of multiple events. The architectural layout was conceived to appreciate natural light, it was achieved by including erecting walls with extensive floor-to-ceiling windows. From lighting fixtures to the interior furnishing, the facilities visible features are meant to encourage connection with the surrounding environment. In addition, as a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Silver certified building, Scotiabank Convention Centre was constructed in a very sustainable manner, making use of both local and recycled construction materials to contribute to the regional economy and reduce the air pollution associated with transportation.

Description

Our tour began on the Second Level of the facility where we met our tour guide in the Pre-Function Space. He took us throughout the floor plan of the building telling us about the history and purpose of every room, routes and halls within the facility, and other extra space in the building. He first lead us to the Main Level of the building where we witnessed the great deal of space where they held their events. We were brought there to be introduced and to examine the area of the Exhibition Halls, Fallsview Theatre/ Jr. Ballroom, and Peller Estates Ballroom. After the tour on the Main Level, the tour guide showed us the use and purpose of the Lower Level of the building. This is where our class was welcomed by kitchen associates and was told to observe the environment of the kitchen where they would prepare different dishes being served in the Main Level for an event. The kitchen was not the only main function of the Lower Level, the Theatre Backstage can also be found on the Lower Level of the facility. It contained a Green Room, Costume Room, and the Star Rooms where the performers would tend to get ready before an event. Moving forward on the tour, the class was able to access the Theater Backstage which lead us back on the Main Level in the Exhibition Hall. We believe that this tour was given to us by Scotiabank Convention Centre, so that we could experience how it feels to be a customer/audience, an associate, and a performer of the convention centre.

Humber College was given a tour in Niagara’s largest convention and meeting facility. It happens to be steps away from Niagara’s famous waterfall. A building that operates 24 hours with 300,000 square feet of convention space, a central location in the Fallsview Entertainment District, walking distance to 4,000 branded guestrooms and easy access to wine country, you can plan to be impressed by Scotiabank Convention Centre.
